I’m Rey Clark, the founder of Arcane Ink Publishing LLC, and I’ve built my career around a simple truth: the best stories don’t just live in books. They deserve to be experienced, worn, played, and shared.

What started as a passion for epic fantasy and science fiction has evolved into something wonderfully unconventional—an independent publishing house that creates books, tabletop role-playing games, and cosplay costumes. Yes, all three. Because why choose one way to tell stories when you can bring characters to life across multiple dimensions?

 

The Author Behind the Worlds

I write the kinds of stories I wanted to read: epic fantasy adventures, soft science fiction explorations, historical fantasy journeys, and LitRPG quests. My work has earned recognition including Cygnus Award and Gertrude Warner Award, but what matters most to me is hearing from readers who’ve gotten lost in these worlds.

The Game Designer

Tabletop RPGs hold a special place in my heart because they’re collaborative storytelling at its finest. My games, like Titanholm (a post-apocalyptic steampunk world), are designed to be beginner-friendly and rules-lite. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or picking up your first set of dice, I want you to focus on the story, not the rulebook.

 

The Costume Designer

Here’s where things get interesting. I create cosplay costumes and accessories—wizard hats, cloaks, tabards, and character-inspired pieces—using quality materials like cotton, canvas, felt, and microsuede. These aren’t just costumes; they’re wearable art that lets fans step into the worlds they love.

My Etsy shop (Arcane Ink) has become the revenue engine that funds professional book covers, better equipment, and continued creative growth. What started as a side project now generates the majority of my income and connects me with the cosplay, Renaissance faire, and comic con communities I adore.

 

The Solo Entrepreneur Reality

I wear every hat in this business—literally and figuratively. I’m the author, the publisher, the game designer, the costume maker, the order fulfillment team, the customer service department, and the person packing boxes three times a week for post office runs.

Operating from Pekin, Illinois, I manage three distinct product lines as a one-person operation. It’s challenging, exhausting, and absolutely rewarding. Every book sold, every game played, and every costume worn represents a direct connection between my creative vision and someone who shares my love for fantasy and science fiction.

I’m a regular on the convention circuit—gaming cons, pop culture events, and craft fairs—where I get to meet readers, gamers, and cosplayers face-to-face. There’s something irreplaceable about seeing someone’s eyes light up when they find exactly the book or costume piece they’ve been searching for.

While conventions remain my primary channel for book sales, I’m actively growing my online presence to reach readers beyond the show circuit. Because great stories deserve to find their audience, whether that’s at a vendor booth or through a late-night online browse.
